This is the kimono jacket you didn't know you needed
23 February 2023
Hey Peeps,
Get ready to sew your way to a new versatile item for your wardrobe - a kimono/abaya.
Today, I'm excited to show you how to create a pattern and sew up a beautiful and unique COCOON STYLE KIMONO JACKET that's perfect for any occasion.
Trust me, I was once skeptical about how versatile a kimono could be until I made one for myself. It can be a jacket, a dress, and it's great at hiding any food babies (you know, that extra bit of tummy after a big meal) - so go ahead and indulge in that cupcake, guilt-free!
On this blog and YouTube channel, we believe in creating a wardrobe that's as unique as you are. That's why we'll be using some print mixing and matching to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece.
Speaking of, This cocoon style kimono and pattern mixing are all part of my fashion collection for 2021, I can't even describe to you how long I've been dying to sew this particular kimono.
I'm so elated I finally got around to it.
And don't worry, I'll be explaining what a COCOON STYLE KIMONO is and how to achieve the look. Spoiler alert: it has a beautiful balloon-style element at the bottom that adds a touch of elegance.
But before we get to the pattern drafting, let's talk about the materials and tools you'll need to bring this project to life. Are you ready to get started? Let's dive in!

You too can sew this amazing double welt pocket in minutes
29 October 2020
Hello,
I'm sewwwwww delighted about what we are going to learn today.
Today is all about welt pockets, and, not just any 'ol welt pocket, but double welt pockets.
And if you didn't know already, they're double welts because the pockets have 2 lips/welts at the opening.
Alternatively there are also single welt pockets which have only 1 welt/lip at the opening.
Since this one is going to be a patch pocket, it'll be lined. But you can skip the lining if yours won't be a patch pocket.
Welt pockets just scream "look at me, I'm all fancy with my sewing now" 😂😂😂😂
And with this technique I'm going to be showing you for this double welt pocket (with lining 😉 ) you can truly let your creativity shine through.
By getting really creative with the shape of the welts and the openings.
Or with the fabrics you use.
You can switch up the pattern of the fabric used for the welts or if you're sewing with directional fabrics you can have a play with the positioning.
Ohhhhhh so many options, so little time.
There's something about the neckline of a garment that speaks volumes and will make you stand out from the crowd.
Some of them are timeless really and you should definitelyldefinitely to sew them properly.
What really makes such necklines look sloppy is when the points/edges don't look sharp.
It's makes the style look less captivating.
The necklines I'm talking about today are
- A scalloped neckline
Very lovely and unique neckline, there's nothing quite like it out there.
You can use it on a variety of ways too, for a pocket and also a hem line.
- A stepped neckline
(I don't know if there's an official name for it) which if you really look at it you can turn it into a square neckline.
Like I said these necklines are always in trend, they are classic and I'm going to teach you a little trick about how to sew them properly.

I'm not going to say the dreaded words but we all know it's given us ample time.
Sooooooo, I've been a busy bee, apart from starting a fashion collection complete with mood boards, fabric swatches and croquis I also started on some upcycling/refashioning I've been putting off.
There's this skirt co-ord set I've had for almost 15yrs that I obviously can't fit into anymore.
It never washed or went out of shape and it's got this whole colour blocking with prints things going for it(sorry there are no before pics but if you watch the video you might get an idea).
There's also a top I've made before, it was my first attempt at a dolman sleeve, it's gotten so much wear that I felt another one was in order.
Here then starts our story.....
This is what the front of the top looks like, from the right and wrong sides.
On the insides, I didn't bother serging. First, because the fabric doesn't fray, thank you sweet Jesus, and second, at the time I made this top, the lockdown was in full effect.

|

I didn't have enough of the main fabric left to make the sleeves one piece with the main body of the top, so I added this bit of fabric to it. the original fabric had waist ties which I used to make a slight gathering effect.
I think it's nice, no???

|

I also used the plain fabric to do a bias binding for the neckline.
It gives a clean finish especially when there's no lining.

From my last dolman sleeve top, I realized that the length of the top didn't let me tuck it in, something I've gotten into lately.
So, I also made use of the same fabric to extend the top, but, you can't really tell it's there when I have it tucked in.
How to sew an A-LINE Dress 3 - Inserting Sleeves
21 March 2020
Hey you,
I knowwwwwwwww you have realized that statement sleeves seemed to stroll into the year 2020 with us.
They are freakin' everywhere you look, on the runways, in the retail shops and also sewing patterns, even my sewing without patterns is feeling it LOL.
I DON'T THINK THEY'RE GOING ANYWHERE ANYTIME SOON
But, even if you like a big ballooned statement sleeve, sometimes, you might want only a little bit extra on your sleeves right????????
I HAVE YOU COVERED
This sleeve is just a little bit of a statement sleeve without being too too extra.
Nooooooo you're not blind or reading the wrong blog post, this is a post about an A-line dress but with emphasis on the sleeves.

Hey you,
A continuation of our A-line dress is what this blog post is about today.

I hope you are ready for sewing the pieces together because that's what this second part is all about.
Thinking, this is the hard part and your sewing will be fraught with mistakes?
Fear not( in my best captain of the ship's voice) for that is why I'm here.
One of the major reasons why I choose this tutorial and why this dress is so good for you to try sewing is because it has simple style lines that are super beginner-friendly.

DIY Maxi Skirt 3 (Tutorial)
17 May 2019
Hey peeps,
This is the final post for the maxi skirt tutorial, thank you all so much for sticking with it.
There isn't much to save except this part contains little elements here and there that bring the skirt together completely, so it's important.
Also if you watch till the very end I do prance about in the skirt for a bit LOL.
But, seriously, I'm toying with the idea of doing lookbooks like the style channels (someday). And why not show off your hard work that is so you?
Let me know your thoughts on the subject and don't forget to drop your email, our friend's list is full of other fun sewists who are enjoying their sewing journey.
In case you missed the 1st and 2nd parts.

DIY Maxi Skirt 2 (Tutorial)
21 April 2019
Hey peeps,
I hope you got through the first part of our tutorial which showed you how to measure and cut out a simple pattern for a maxi skirt.
Remember, like I said, even though it is a gathered, lined and with inseam pockets, you can decide to do away with those.
For this second part, we are going through the stitching process in great detail.
Please do not hesitate to ask questions about anything that is not clear,
I really do want everyone to give the skirt a try.
If you do give the skirt a try, pls be sure to tag me on any one of my socials so I can repost it.
MAXI SKIRTS ARE A SUMMER/WARDROBE ESSENTIAL, RIGHT?
Heres the 3rd part of the tutorial. ENJOY.
