It's MEEEEEEEE time..... So, This Blog Has Evolved

31 August 2008

If you’ve been around here for a while, you may have noticed that this blog has changed a little.

Okay… a lot.

When I first started this blog, the idea was very different from what you see here today. I wanted it to be a place to talk about Nigeria — the things happening around us, interesting people and places, sports, entertainment, culture, and basically anything I found interesting and thought other people might want to know about.

It was going to be my little corner of the internet for all things Nigerian.

And then, somewhere along the way, I started sewing.

Actually, I should probably say I started sewing more seriously, because the sewing bug had clearly been waiting patiently in the background.

Over the years, sewing gradually became a much bigger part of my life. What started as a hobby became something I genuinely loved learning about, experimenting with and sharing. I started making clothes, learning more about patterns and fitting, playing around with fabrics and generally asking myself questions like,

“Can I actually make this myself?”

And, more often than not, the answer became, “Well… let's find out.”

So the blog evolved.

These days, sewing is at the heart of what I write about here — from sewing projects and pattern drafting to fabrics, techniques, fitting, and all the little discoveries that come with trying to make the clothes you actually want to wear.

But apparently, sewing wasn't enough.

Because recently, I picked up a crochet hook.

And now we're here.

😂

So yes, crochet is making its way into the mix too.

I'm still very much a beginner, which means you'll probably see me figuring things out, testing stitches, comparing yarns, asking “What stitch is this?!” and generally going down the inevitable crochet rabbit holes.

And that's actually what I like about this space.

It doesn't have to stay in one neat little box.

It's about making things, learning things, trying new things and sharing the journey — whether that's sewing a dress, figuring out a pattern, learning a new crochet stitch, discovering a particularly fabulous fabric or simply finding another creative thing to obsess over for a while.

And if you've been here from the beginning…

Thank you.

Seriously.

Blogs have changed quite a bit over the years, and the internet has changed even more. Some of you may have arrived here when this was primarily a Nigeria-focused blog. Others may have found me through sewing. Some of you might have come from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or somewhere else entirely.

However you got here, I'm glad you're here.

And if you've been wondering whether you should stick around now that the blog has taken this rather unexpected creative detour, I hope you will.

Because there are still plenty of things I want to make, learn and share.

And there's one other thing…

If you haven't already

consider signing up for my email list

Social media is great, YouTube is great, and I love creating content for those platforms. But the blog and email list give me a little more room to talk.

There are things I write about in my emails that don't necessarily make it onto YouTube or social media. Sometimes it's something I'm working on, something I've discovered, a useful resource, a sewing or crochet rabbit hole I've fallen into, or simply something that doesn't fit neatly into a video or social media post.

So if you'd like to get the occasional note from me — without having to rely on an algorithm deciding whether you get to see it — sign up.

And if you've been here since the Nigeria-blog days?

Well… welcome to the sewing-and-now-apparently-crochet era.

I'm really glad you're still here.

Let's see what we make next.
